Barcelona Nord Coach Station has reached a major milestone in its recent history with the completion of a comprehensive transformation project. After months of work, we have renewed the station to create a more functional, accessible and future-ready environment that responds to today’s mobility needs.
This transformation will allow the station to meet the growing demand for coach travel, an increasingly popular mode of transport connecting Barcelona with destinations across Spain and beyond. In recent years, passenger numbers have risen significantly, stressing the need for a modern and efficient infrastructure capable of supporting future growth.
A clearer, more functional station designed around passengers
One of the main goals of the project has been to simplify the passenger experience. To achieve this, we have brought together all services on a single level, creating a more open and intuitive space that improves circulation throughout the station.
The new layout also introduces a single passenger entrance from Carrer de Nàpols, which helps to better organise the flow of arrivals and departures, enhances safety and makes the experience more comfortable.
This reorganisation offers clearer, more accessible, and more comfortable spaces, locating all essential services on the same floor.
Upgraded waiting areas and enhanced services
The transformation has also included the renewal of passenger waiting areas. The new spaces have been designed with passengers in mind, offering them a functional and comfortable environment before boarding their coach.
At the same time, we have upgraded our food and beverage offering with a new café located in the heart of the station, alongside an improved vending corner. In the near future, the offer will be expanded further with the addition of a new restaurant in the pedestrian access area.
Real-time information for a smoother journey
Digitalisation has been another key element of the transformation. New large-format information screens have been installed in the main circulation areas of the station, which provide passengers with real-time departure information, platform allocations and service updates.
These improvements are complemented by enhanced customer assistance, including a new accessible information point, a tourist information desk and refurbished operator ticket offices, which continue to serve as an important point of contact for travel-related enquiries and services.
Greater safety and stronger connections across the city
The new station layout is complemented by intelligent security systems that improve monitoring across both the passenger areas and boarding platforms, strengthening our ability to prevent incidents and respond effectively when required.
This transformation also improves connectivity with Barcelona’s wider public transport network, particularly through the nearby Arc de Triomf interchange. This integration facilitates the journey and reinforces intermodality as one of Barcelona Nord’s key strengths.
Preserving heritage while moving towards a more sustainable future
Throughout the project, we have remained committed to the preservation of the station’s architectural and historical value. All improvements respect the unique character of this historic building while enhancing accessibility, lighting, acoustic comfort and the overall quality of the environment.
Among the most notable achievements is the restoration of the Helios and Lunar Phases mosaic by artist Armand Olivè Milian. The removal of the former central staircase has made it possible to fully reveal the artwork and complete its restoration using conservation methods that respect the original technique.
The project also includes measures aimed at improving sustainability and energy efficiency. In the upcoming months, the station will incorporate a rooftop photovoltaic installation that will help reduce energy consumption and support a more sustainable mobility model.
Ready for the future
With this transformation, Barcelona Nord strengthens its position as the city’s leading hub for coach arrivals and departures. A renewed, more efficient and future-ready station that is prepared to meet growing demand, enhance the passenger experience and contribute to a more connected, organised and sustainable mobility network.
